The Emissary

The ancient stone terrace of a café anchors the scene in the deep history of Rome, the bedrock of civilization upon which modern institutions are built. The Vatican, visible through the window, serves as the ideological foundation of modern faith. Adding a touch of whimsy or irony, the pigeon (lacking the original purity of the dove) appears to have arrived on a holy mission of peace. The viewer must decide if he just wants your french fries.

The original acrylic painting is currently on exhibit at Pearl Works, Monterey, California and was previously shown at the Walter Lee Avery Gallery in Seaside, California.
